Battery passport actors
A battery passport distinguishes several roles, each with a different level of access to its information — from the general public scanning a QR code to the regulatory authorities. This page explains each of these roles in plain language.
Public
Who
Anyone scanning a battery's QR code.
Access
Read-only access to public data, guaranteed for at least 10 years — no account or login required.
Owning economic operator
Who
The company — manufacturer, importer, or an operator that took over responsibility for the passport — that owns it.
Access
Full read/write access to its own passports, subject to its Company account's internal permissions.
Approved economic operator (third party)
Who
A repairer, remanufacturer, second-life operator, or distributor acting on a battery it does not (yet) own.
Access
Extended read access to data reserved for parties with a legitimate interest, with the ability to initiate a responsibility transfer to a new passport.
Recycler / approved treatment operator
Who
An authorized treatment or recycling facility.
Access
Extended read access to the legitimate-interest data needed for dismantling and safety, and the ability to declare the recycling event that closes the passport at end of life.
Authority
Who
A notified body, market surveillance authority, or the European Commission.
Access
Full read access, including authority-reserved data — never any write right on the passport's content.
